The simplest and easiest way to add and edit tasks is right on the Task List form.
Add a new task by typing in the highlighted line on the form (this is a blank line that is a different color than the other lines and normally shows at the bottom of the task list but can appear in the middle of the task list if you're inserting tasks).
Edit an existing task, by clicking the edit icon on the task line and click in the appropriate fields or tab through them to change the data. Another way to start editing of a task is to double click anywhere on the white space of a task line (don't click on any text on the line because that invokes a hyper link). Another option is to right click on the task and select Edit Task (inline).
To save any changes, click the save button or press enter.

The majority of the task data can be entered directly into the columns on the talk list or Gantt Chart, however, there are three additional data entry layers that are accessed via hyperlinks in the columns instead of doing data entry directly in that column:

Adding Summary Tasks
- Adding a task to the root-level of the task list requires that any summary tasks prior to the task being added are fully collapsed. Use "Tools -> Collapse All Summary Tasks" to make certain you have done this before adding new tasks with the intention of placing them on the root-level of the task list.
- Changing the order of tasks in the list requires the drag-and-drop feature invoked by dragging from within the line of the task to be moved.
- When using the drag-and-drop function to change the order of tasks in the list, you may see a dialogue box clarifying your intended action. Pay close attention to the message in this box, as "Cancel" does not always cancel all actions from your drag-and-drop action. Sometimes "Cancel" will still perform the task move on the list, but will set the task's summary parent one-level lower. In the example message below, both the "OK" and the "Cancel" selections perform a move on the task. "Cancel" simply moves the task one summary level lower than "OK."
- While entering or editing a task, the Enter key will perform a save to the task, just the same as having clicked the task Save icon. The Description field which uses Enter to set hard returns (paragraph separators) is an exception to this rule.
- You must save tasks using either the save icon or by hitting return while editing/entering a task. Failure to do so may lose all added or edited data for the task.
- Drag-and-drop always places the task item below another task item. To move a task to the top of a list, you must perform a two-step process in which you drag-and-drop the task second from the top, and then drag-and-drop the top task down below the second from the top.
- Performance is optimized by working in "collapsed" mode (only expand those summary tasks within which you are working).
